SEIKO OR CITIZEN

Posted by Nicole on 16th Oct 2019

Let's compare Seiko and Citizen. We'll all have our own opinions on which is our personal winner, but to help those who are still unsure, let's get into the details.

Seiko and Citizen are actually fairly similar brands apart from their companies, which I guess is the reason they get compared. They are both large corporations with a history of quality and affordable watches. Seiko (Japanese for exquisite) started in Japan in the late 1800's and created their first wristwatch in 1913. Whilst Citizen, was founded in Japan in 1918 and was first registered by a Swiss owner. Seiko also have the advantage of their Grand Seiko collection being Swiss level watches.

The one to take the cake for Automatic watches would be Seiko, mostly all of their watches hold an Automatic movement. Unfortunately, mechanical watches do suffer in terms of keeping time, however, they are the most affordable and innovative movements outside of Switzerland. Counter to this, Citizen are deeply invested in their Eco-Drive technology, which has the ability to use light from any source to generate electrical power meaning that the supply is limitless and free.

Both Citizen and Seiko watches also have their own range of Atomic Time Keeping watches (this means they have Radio Controlled technology). Seiko have their impressive Astron range, which are the world's first GPS Solar watches. Whilst Citizen have their Satellite Wave range.

As for style and design, the competition will always be based on preference. Whether you are a watch collector who will take anything that is new and interesting (or old and nostalgic), whether you'll wear it or keep it in a box, or you want something that portrays your own personal style - both brands can make this happen. They have so many different styles within each brand that can bring pretty much anyone in the world, pure joy.

So, what's your favourite brand out of these two?
