Junghans Pioneering Legacy

Junghans' journey began in 1861 in Schramberg, Black Forest. By 1903, they became the world's largest watchmaker, employing over 3,000 people and producing 9,000+ watches daily - a remarkable feat driven by their relentless pursuit of precision and innovation. In 1956, they became the third-largest chronometer manufacturer, underscoring their commitment to accuracy. This expertise earned them roles as official timekeepers for the 1972 Munich Olympics and numerous motorsports events, cementing their reputation in the sports world.

Junghans has consistently pioneered technological advancements. In 1990, they introduced the world's first radio-controlled watch, setting new precision standards. They furthered this spirit by developing their own solar-powered radio-controlled movements, combining eco-friendly tech with unrivalled accuracy.

The Pilot Automatic: Honoring Aviation Timekeeping

Aviation and timekeeping share a deep bond. Junghans celebrates this connection with the Pilot Automatic in three variations. Their pilot's watches boast a rich history - in the early 20th century, they produced onboard aircraft clocks to track flight durations when GPS was still fiction. These clocks served as pilots' personal timepieces and navigation aids. A milestone was the 1950s pilot's chronograph for Germany's newly formed armed forces, featuring an iconic rotating bezel with 12 concave notches.

The new Pilot Automatic carries this tradition forward with fresh interpretations retaining iconic design cues while incorporating modernized elements like pared-down displays and optimized legibility - a must for pilots and watch enthusiasts that will soon be available in June 2024.

Design Details and Variations

The curved date window mirrors aircraft displays, balanced by the recessed small seconds subdial. Oversized numerals evoke cockpit charm. Eco-friendly luminescent coatings ensure optimal legibility against the gradient dials transitioning from light to deep black.

Two variations feature satin-finished steel cases - one with a dark green dial and gray leather strap, the other with a dark gray dial and black strap. The third boasts a modern, matte black DLC-coated steel case harmonizing beautifully with the dark gray dial and contrasting white numerals. All bear Junghans' historical logo, nodding to their aviation timekeeping roots.
