Origins of this collection:
  • The Alpinist didn’t begin as a fashion choice. It began as a necessity. In the late 1950s, as wristwatches became more than just timekeepers, Seiko asked a simple question: What would a watch look like if it had to be trusted in the mountains? The answer came in 1959, with a watch crafted for the Yama-otoko, Japanese mountain men who walked long trails, climbed rugged terrain, and needed gear that could endure far beyond casual use.
  • This was Seiko’s first true sports timepiece, not elegant dress watch nor delicate instrument, but a tool built with intent. Robust in build, legible in all conditions, and capable of withstanding the dust and strain of a harsh environment, the original Alpinist was designed to go where precision and reliability were not luxuries, but necessities.
  • From that first model, the watch’s identity was clear, this was a watch for the prepared, someone who knows that adventure isn’t measured by accolades, but by challenge and discovery. Over the decades, the Alpinist continued to evolve, but its core DNA never wavered: purpose before performance, function before flair.
  • Through decades of reinterpretations, from rugged field companion to beloved modern classic, the Alpinist has become more than a watch. It’s a quiet statement about how you move through the world, with respect for nature, a readiness for uncertainty, and a recognition that true tools don’t scream for attention; they simply do their job well.
  • Today’s Alpinist models may walk off display cases and into urban life, but every tick still echoes that original philosophy: a timepiece born in the mountains, refined over generations, and made for those who seek not just to observe the horizon, but to reach it.
Highlights:
  • This limited edition Prospex watch is exclusively available in Europe. Limited to 3000 pieces.
  • Taking its name from the original and much-loved Seiko ‘Alpinist’ – launched in 1959 for Japanese ‘Yama-otoko’ mountain men, reliable in treacherous terrain – this watch further evolves the Alpinist specifications and overall design – with a legibility focus.
  • The popular SPB121 Alpinist model is the basis for the design of this European Exclusive – its colourways inspired by the night sky over the mountains.
  • The deep blue dial features a subtle gentle vertical striped pattern and is complemented by ‘cathedral style’ gold-coloured hour and minute hands.
  • Paired with a deep blue calf leather strap, this timepiece is accompanied by an additional navy nylon strap in a special edition box.
  • Through the exhibition case back the in-house 6R35 calibre can be viewed, accurate to -15/+25 seconds per day, with a power reserve of 70 hours; the limited-edition number is engraved on the case back.
  • Ever practical, the watch features a compass functionality, whilst its super-hard coating gives it shine and strong scratch resistance.
  • Prospex is a combination of the words ‘Professional’ and ‘Specifications.’ Seiko Prospex timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable; to meet the high standards required in extreme environments for sports lovers and adventure seekers alike.
